Oh my! Today I washed my hair in the bathroom sink, because there was no way this body was getting in the shower with no hot water! Did I mention that their hot water is controlled by the city as well as the heat, therefore sometimes the hot is off. And the heat has not yet been turned on for the winter! So when we get up in the morning it is pretty cold in here! We just want hot showers to warm up in… Yeah, not today! So the hair washing in the sink was still pretty cold!!!!! But at least my head was clean!
We took a new truck with us to the babyhouse today. It is a little zoo truck that has a zoo keeper in it, when you hit the guy on the head the truck starts up and the animals start making noises and then the truck takes off across the room! Alex loved it, although he liked to knock the truck over and watch the wheels spin and listen to the noises! We brought him this cute little sweat suit outfit to wear today. Oh he was really squish-able and snuggly in it! We did a routine today… we played with his toys for a little while, then we headed to the rocking horse, and of course what would the day be without several attempts at momma’s camera!!!? Although today he was a little more sneaky than usual in his stalking of the camera. He would pull himself up to me like he wanted to be picked up… which of course how can I resist? Then we would grab for the camera, of course I had him figured out right away because he looks at the camera the whole time! Ha! But several times he did just crawl across the floor to me and crawl up on me. That was nice. I think he is starting to really like us now. However we did start giving him the snacks. Who can tell?! We don’t care, we love him… he will figure us out soon enough. We still haven’t heard him cry, but he is starting to make a few more noises than he has been, which is good. I think he is at least getting used to us. The final evidence is that he tooted, sitting right next to us! Yes Ladies, you all know that is when the guy is really comfortable with you! Usually you are married though by the time that happens! Hahaha! Oh well! We have him his new “usual” snacks again today, he loves those things! Same ol’ thing all smiles when Assyia reached for him! We learned that the babyhouse is in need of about 10 more cribs and probably the blankets for them, so we are looking forward to contributing toward that as our donation. BH2 has 5 groups there, with about 8-10 children in each.
After our morning visit, we went to drive by the maternity hospital where he was born. We were not permitted to go inside though, so we took a few pictures out side and left. We want to try to go back, since it was raining when we went, and I want a few more pictures. We will see as the time passes!
We went to the Kid’s Café and met the other WPA couples for lunch with their interpreter, Aliya. Aliya is Assyia’s sister. She is very cute. We had fun! There were some kids having a birthday party in there, in a private room, every time they would open the door to take in food, the music was so loud, we thought the kids would go deaf! It was disco-like dance music! When we finally looked in there to see what they were doing, we were surprised to see that they were dancing!!! It was hilarious! Jerry asked the mother in charge if he could video it and she said yes and invited us all in… it took us a few minutes to go in, as we were all afraid when we found out Jerry was dancing with them and Aliya was videoing the event! We finally all went in and the other couples got dancing with the kids a little. It was so cute. The kids were really gettin’ down! We go video of almost the whole song! We laughed so hard! We finally left and headed on foot back to the apartment. One of the couples we had lunch with today gave us their Nursat card, we had run out yesterday, and they said they did not need it. It was so thoughtful of them!!! Thank you!!!!
We had about 30 minutes before our 2nd visit to the babyhouse. We got hooked back up to our internet and wrote a few emails, and off we went again! While we were waiting at the babyhouse we met another couple from Michigan visiting their son at BH2 as well. So that was neat and we will have to exchange info before parting Uralsk!
Alex usually has just woken from a nap when we come in the afternoon, so he is usually quiet for a while. He was especially snuggly today. He just wanted me to hold him, not facing me though, but he did want to be held! Right away he got into the bag to see if the snacks were still there, they were… So then we distracted him, we decided to give them to him the last 10 minutes or so, otherwise he would want to eat the entire time. He rode the horsy again and crawled toward the camera, and then we played with the new truck. Then he decided that it was time to eat again… he actually took my thumb and put it in his mouth and proceeded to bite down!! I stopped that pretty quick and told him no… he stopped and looked at me for a second, and then played some more for a while. We did another family photo shoot, he does love the camera! We had fun! We finally brought out the snacks! He still shovels! J We learned that we will get to visit him tomorrow, we had hear that sometimes you can’t visit on Sundays… not sure why? Anyways, Yeah!!!!!!
We headed out to the Zhas Dauren after our visit! We were really excited because we would get to meet our sponsor daughters Alia and Luba. The kids were all so excited to get to see us and talk to us! They love saying Hello! It was adorable, they just smile and follow you around! We were told that we were not supposed to take pictures of the kids but that they would let us today but we couldn’t tell anyone! We wanted to be able to send pictures of the kids to their sponsor families! Well, we eventually got caught, I hope it will be ok…They used to allow you to take photos, but rules are always changing, I guess. They are really funny here about not taking pictures… Anyway, we met our girls and they are so sweet and shy! Luba has graduated and doesn’t live there anymore. She has a twin sister and an older sister, both are married. Alia has a younger brother, who smiles non-stop, and was just so cute! There was another set of sisters there today, neither of them got letters, but they kept on smiling! So if any of you forgot to send your letters this month, hurry so they can come over with the next family! These kids were so excited!!! Jerry and I just wanted to bring Alia and her brother and the other 2 sisters home with us! They were such happy little kids in spite of their orphan state. I wish I could share the pictures, as I am sure someone would want to sponsor them, but I “can’t put them on the internet!” Trust me! They were adorable!!!
Jerry and I were both very sobered by our visit there today, it felt kind of like a prison way out in the countryside, only not as nice looking as our prisons. There wasn’t barbed wire fence either, but it was the feeling of desperation of the kids that are there. We are determined more than ever to make a difference in the lives of as many orphans as possible!!!!
